IMPACT RESULTS

We believe that integrating agriculture and conservation is critical to achieving sustainable development.

Since LIF was launched in 2021, we have built a portfolio of 44 projects, implemented by 54 partners, in four South American countries – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay – delivering solutions for sustainable agriculture to more than 1,500 farmers, covering 2.5 million hectares.

Our impacts contribute directly to LIF’s Theory of Change and our mission of building an innovation landscape to promote sustainable, climate-smart, deforestation and conversion-free agriculture.

Check out some of our main results and access our Impact Report 2021-2023 to find out more about our projects.

LIF geographies

44 projects, 4 countries, 3 biomes

Of the 44 LIF projects implemented by 54 partners, 33 initiatives (75%) are located in the Cerrado, nine (20%) in the Gran Chaco and six (14%) in the Amazon. Two LIF initiatives implement activities in transition areas in the Pantanal and Chiquitania floodplain regions in Brazil and Bolivia, respectively.

Note: The percentage totals reach more than 100% as select projects are implemented in more than one biome

ON-THE-FARM RESULTS

LIF projects have direct impacts in the field.  All our efforts and investments focus on creating the conditions for sustainable, deforestation-and conversion-free agriculture.

Our projects have engaged 2,100 farms representing 2.5 million hectares in the Cerrado, Gran Chaco and Amazon biomes. Farmers in our portfolio have avoided the conversion of 41,000 hectares of forests or native vegetation in threatened ecosystems, by committing to deforestation-free production during the term of their projects with LIF.

Innovation

At the Land Innovation Fund, innovation is created through networking, with the active participation of multiple voices from the sector, working collaboratively towards sustainable agricultural development.

LIF is supporting the development of 70 innovations, 11 of which are aimed at shaping public policies, protocols, and regulations for sustainable agriculture.

A total of 51 startups at different stages of innovation were selected for mentoring and support from experts to develop their projects. Of this sum, 22 have received financial support from the Startup Finance Facility to accelerate the development, testing, and implementation of innovative solutions for the soy supply chain in the Cerrado.

Integrated solution

LIF projects operate at different scales at local, regional, sub-national or global levels, in different governance formats, pooling efforts, expertise and resources to implement the initiatives.

In LIF’s portfolio, 16 projects work in consortium format and strategic partnerships, pooling efforts, expertise and resources to implement the initiatives; three of them work in multiple countries, crossing geographical borders in search of a shared understanding of sustainability and good agricultural practices.

By promoting the implementation of projects in an integrated, network format, LIF is laying the foundation for an innovation landscape for sustainability.
