Land Innovation Fund announces portfolio expansion in online event
On the 30th, at 10am, partners and representatives of the Fund will participate in LIF360 and discuss possibilities of synergy and exchange of knowledge to build an innovation landscape for agricultural sustainability in South America
Focused on "Building an innovation landscape", the third LIF360 event will offer an overview of the Fund's current initiatives, new partners selected in the third funding round, and future opportunities for involvement and cooperation. The online forum will feature representatives of the Land Innovation Fund, partners in initiatives now underway, and the leaders of projects in the Fund's portfolio, highlighting the Fund's role in building an innovation landscape for climate-smart, sustainable agriculture in South America.
Our guests will include the president of the Argentine Edible Oil Association (CIARA-CEC), Gustavo Idigoras, who will discuss implementation challenges and market expectations for development of the ViSeC platform, an online tool to monitor and verify all of Argentina’s soy sales. With the implementation of this online tool, expected to do its pilot run by late 2023, Argentina will be able to commit to exporting soy only from areas free of deforestation as of January 2020 in the entire country, and specifically in the Gran Chaco. The project is one of four supported by the Land Innovation Fund for the Gran Chaco biome and stresses the Fund's commitment to innovative solutions addressing major challenges on today's environmental and agricultural agendas.
Another confirmed presence at LIF360 is Fernanda Gomes, a researcher at the Center for Conservation Sciences and Sustainability at PUC-Rio (CSRio) who is leading a project carried out by the International Institute for Sustainability (IIS). She will present the results of a groundbreaking behavioral science survey on the soy supply chain in Matopiba (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia), carried out with the Fund's support. She traveled more than 15,000 km and interviewed more than 60 farmers in the region to understand their motivations for adopting good agricultural practices in one of the agricultural frontiers moving the fastest into Brazil's native vegetation areas.
Three representatives of the Land Innovation Fund will join the guests to welcome our new partners and present the projects, actions, and initiatives in the Fund's portfolio: the Land Innovation Fund’s director, Carlos E. Quintela, its deputy director, Ashley Valle, and the Program Implementation leader, Mariana Galvão. The new partners of the LIF portfolio will have the opportunity to present their projects and talk about the possibilities of synergies and knowledge exchange for building an innovation landscape for sustainability.
In a little over two years of operation, the Fund has built a portfolio of more than 30 projects, with more than 40 partners united by a single purpose: to design, develop, and deliver innovative solutions for sustainable, climate-smart, and deforestation- and conversion-free agriculture in three priority biomes in South America - the Amazon, Cerrado, and Gran Chaco.
