ByMySoil - Cerrado Program
Microbiological soil analysis
This applied genomics startup extracts DNA, assembles libraries and does bioinformatics analysis to map soil microorganisms and pathogens, in both crop fields and conserved areas. As a PSSC participant, it intends to apply and validate its soil analysis technology in the Cerrado, to help reduce the use of chemicals and strengthen inclusive and sustainable agriculture.
ByMyCell's proposal is to evaluate around 250 soil samples from the Cerrado, covering an approximate area of up to 12,500 hectares of the biome. The analysis will cover crop land and both restored and native forest areas, to generate models for recommending agricultural practices and refining an algorithm to analyze the region's microbiota. Besides training farmers to make decisions in the field, the startup will also create a platform adapted to the needs of the Cerrado’s soils and crops.
